University Hospital is a 507 bed facility and is the main teaching hospital for the New Jersey Medical School. Patients include local residents who receive their primary care at the hospital, as well as as tertiary referral patients, especially in the areas of multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and neuromuscular disease.

With 570 beds, this hospital is one of the larger Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in the country and serves an estimated population of almost 1 million. It is the only Department of Veterans Affairs tertiary care facility in New Jersey. A full range of general and subspecialty services are provided to this special clientele.
