I would like
to congratulate you on making the decision to become an Internist.
The next step in the process is to choose a residency program in
which you will thrive and develop the lifelong skills you will need
to succeed. The New Jersey Medical School Internal Medicine Residency
Program is committed to education. Our housestaff benefits from
very close resident-faculty interactions, bedside teaching (we are
experts in physical diagnosis), and a strong group of fellow residents
who enjoy what they are doing and who like interacting closely with
each other.
One of our strengths
is the very active Education Committee, which is charged to identify
ways to continuously improve the quality of our educational programs.
Because of ideas generated from this committee, our program has
developed a mentoring system and workshops in transitioning to the
PGY-2 year, learning to teach students, and how to apply and attain
fellowships successfully.
We are a program,
which believes that humanism and professionalism are just as important
as fund of knowledge and research. We believe in the importance
of family and quality of life. This led us to discontinue overnight
call on the floors and to allow residents a weekday off instead
of just weekend days off. Patients expect that their physicians
possess important personal attributes as well as textbook knowledge.
We feel that we accomplish this in our training of residents.
I strongly urge
you to consider the UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School as a place
to acquire superb internal medicine graduate training in a nurturing
and comfortable environment. Our goal is to fulfill all of your
educational needs. We will develop you into a mature, confident,
humanistic, knowledgeable Internist prepared for clinical practice,
fellowship, or academic medicine. You will find the training experiences
and the education at NJMS outstanding preparation for your future
career. We welcome the opportunity to meet you and show you our
state-of-the-art facilities. We look forward to receiving your application.
