Our residents come from a wide range of medical schools, spanning from New Jersey to California. We are a cohesive community of residents. Our quest for knowledge and commitment to patient care is evident in our work, our board pass rate and our interaction with fellow residents, attending and hospital staff. We are constantly looking to change the status quo in an effort to improve resident learning and patient care. We hold monthly business meetings which focus on problems within the individual departments and issues within Med-Peds. These meetings are not "gripe sessions", but meetings where "plans of attack" are set in motion. We are represented in residency councils of both departments as well as in the National Med-Peds Residency Organization.

A SENSE OF FAMILY

One of the special things about being "Med/Peds" is the sense of family and community. Our ties to one another are not just limited to the practice of medicine and pediatrics. We make it a point to "get to know one another". Parents, spouses, significant others and children are very integral to a resident's ability to remained focused and grounded. There is no Med/Peds activity where important people outside clinical practice aren't welcome.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

There are many social activities throughout the year. One of the benefits of being Med/Peds is the opportunity to participate in the social life of two departments. The social scene is marked by formally arranged and pharmaceutical sponsored outings to area restaurants and pubs, golf courses and even fishing excursions usually happening once or twice a month. University and Hackensack hold both Pediatric and Internal Medicine holiday parties, which have provided residents and their significant others the opportunity to dress up a little from the ordinary scrubs and white coat attire. The Med/Peds department has traditionally held two annual parties - one at the beginning of the academic year, which welcomes the new class of residents and celebrates the accomplishments of the old class, the other is typically an informal Holiday Bash.
