MEMORANDUM
The University Academic Information Technology Advisory Committee (AcITAC), which also serves as the IST Governance Education Services Committee, is pleased to announce the 2008 educational technology grant competition. This year’s program has been supported by the Integrated Advanced Information Management Systems (IAIMS) Project and the Foundation of UMDNJ. The grant program is designed to promote technology-centered educational innovation. The maximum amount an applicant can request is $20,000; all project principal investigators must be full-time UMDNJ faculty members. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate imaginative and innovative uses of educational technology in one or more areas such as faculty and student development, course design, curriculum development, teaching methods, delivery of course content, health education, etc.; to focus on evaluation of the effectiveness of educational technology; and to collaborate on projects with other schools and/or departments. Of particular interest is the integration of informatics teaching into the curriculum, the development of interdisciplinary Web-based clinical case simulations, and the creation of Web-based programs on topics of interest to all UMDNJ students such as ethics, health care financing, evidence-based medicine, jurisprudence, population health, and information management. Successful proposals will define the need for the project, extrapolate its applicability to the larger University community, set quantifiable objectives and outcomes, determine what is needed to accomplish these ends and describe or design those mechanisms and/or tools which will measure them. They will then identify the activities and resources necessary for implementation. Grant applications will be reviewed by representatives of AcITAC, the IAIMS Project and the UMDNJ Stuart D. Cook, M.D. Master Educators' Guild. All grant requests must be submitted to Julia Bush in Academic Systems and Technologies both electronically at bushjm@umdnj.edu and in print at UMDNJ-IST/AST, NJDS room B725, 110 Bergen Street, Newark, NJ 07101-1709, no later than January 25, 2008. Applicants are urged to carefully read all instructions in the Guidelines section at http://www.umdnj.edu/minigweb/guidelines.htm and Process section at http://www.umdnj.edu/minigweb/process.htm, and seek consultations as advised. Finalists will present their proposals before a panel of reviewers for preliminary selection in November. Awards will be announced in April 2008. Please contact Laura Barrett, the review panel Chair, at barrett@umdnj.edu or 2-0155 with any questions.
