The DXplain Options section features a list of selections and a question as to the origin of the data to be input. Please choose one selection from each column, and then press the Continue button. Follow the instructions for each option, as listed below.

TO ENTER A CASE FOR ANALYSIS

The first screen will have dialog boxes for gathering demographic information; make one selection in each box for Age, Gender and Condition; press Continue.

The next screen will ask the user to enter findings such as lab values and symptoms, separated by a semi-colon(;). Be sure to also select the radio button next to Add Findings; press Process Results.

DXplain will return with lists of more specific findings. Choose the ones most applicable to the case being discussed; press Process Results. Continue this pattern until all symptoms and lab values are entered.

When ready for final list of differential diagnoses, press the List Possible Diseases button and then click Process Request.

DXplain will return with a list of potential diagnoses. The user will notice that any diseases which are fully supported by the list of symptoms will be marked with a + or a ++. At this point the user can click on one disease and then click the Explain Disease button; or can click on the Disease Information button. Other options at this point include Enter Disease not on List; Return to Add Finding; Start a New Case; Help and Comments.

Explain Disease will retrieve a run down of which symptoms strongly, moderately and sometimes suggest the presence of this disease. Disease Information will produce a list of all the signs and symptoms of a certain disease.

The program will prompt for the name of a disease, and will return with a full description of that disease: symptoms, etiology, pathology, etc.

TO LIST DISEASES ASSOCIATED WITH A FINDING

The program will prompt for the name of a symptom and will return a list of possible diseases which feature that finding. The user is able to click on one of the diseases for a full description.
