The Art of Medicine course provides students with an introduction to basic concepts of clinical medicine. The course provides students with exposure to the clinical practice of medicine and with the opportunity to practice skills that they develop in this course. The library has many resources to assist as the weekly case course work is assigned. Remote Access to Electronic Information for UMDNJ UsersIn order to access electronic resources from outside of the UMDNJ campus, you must be a registered library user. Access is given through an EZProzy service. To get remote access, you must complete a registration form at the Smith Library circulation desk and have a bar code affixed to the back of your valid UMDNJ ID card. Click here for further information on Remote Access.Finding Textbooks in the Smith LibraryThe Online Catalog will help you locate books, journals, and audiovisuals owned by any of the UMDNJ libraries. The Online Catalog, along with all other library electronic resources, is available from the library, your home or office. Using the catalog you have the option to search by Keyword, by Subject, by Title, or by Author. The Online Catalog can be accessed directly or through the Smith Library Home page.By using the Online Catalog, you can identify the areas that some useful textbooks can be found in the library:

Electronic TextbooksThe Smith Library also provides full text access to over 150 titles of electronic books. Click here for a subject listing of the electronic textbooks available for your use. Electronic Textbooks can also be accessed through different databases such as MDConsult, STAT!Ref and Books@OVID.JournalsJournals can be located in the Library by using the Online Catalog. It is important to check the library "holdings" after you identify that we do carry a journal. The holdings are a record of the years or issues that the library has received in the past. Journals do not circulate, which means they cannot be borrowed from the Library. Journals are available electronically or in paper copy. Remember, the catalog, will tell you if we carry a specific journal title, it is not used to find individual articles in a journal.Full Text Electronic JournalsUMDNJ subscribes to over 1500 electronic journal titles university wide in clinical and research areas. Electronic journals have the contents of a journal available full text on the computer and may be viewed or printed. Full text availability in journals begins around 1996. If a journal is not available electronically, be sure to check the catalog to see if it is available in paper copy. Databases to Help Locate Journal ArticlesClick on Databases on the Smith Library Home page for a complete listing of the databases available to the UMDNJ community. These databases can be used to locate specific journal articles after you have identified the subject you would like to research.
Multi-media CollectionClick on Multi-media Collection on the Smith Library Home page. The Multi-media collection is materials that can assist you in your class work and research. You can also click on Resources for PBL Cases for more specific resources for this class.
