Anatomy
The
Hosford Muscle Tables: Skeletal Muscles of the Human Body --
This web site is an index containing detailed information about the skeletal
muscles of the human body. Included is each muscle's origin, insertion,
action, blood supply and innervation.
The
Visible Human Project -- The Visible Human Project is an outgrowth
of the NLM's 1986 Long-Range Plan. It is creating a complete, anatomically
detailed, three-dimensional representations of the male and female human
body. The current phase of the project is collecting transverse CT, MRI
and cryosection images of representative male and female cadavers at one
millimeter intervals. The long-term goal of the Visible Human Project is
to produce a system of knowledge structures that will transparently link
visual knowledge forms to symbolic knowledge formats such as the names
of body parts.
A
Guided Tour of the Visible Human -- The Visible Human Project from
NLM has generated over 18000 digitized sections of the body. To help fully
utilize those images, Lynn Bry, MD/PhD, created this guide tour.
The animations and images in this tour use a few of those images to demonstrate
planes of section, and how 2D cross-sections provide a unique means of
studying the human body in three dimensions.
Structure
of the Human --
A course site designed and maintained by John A. McNulty, Ph.D., of Loyola
University offers computer-based educational materials for the Structure
of the Human body. The cross-sectional images, MRI's and CT's from the
Visible Human Project have been specifically selected for integration into
the Structure of the Human Body curriculum at the Stritch School of Medicine.
Anatomy
of the Human Body by Henry Gray -- Gray's Anatomy of the Human
body on Bartleby.com contains 1,247 vibrant engravings, with many in color,
from the classic 1918 edition. The subject index of 13,000 entries ranges
from the Antrum of Highmore to the Zonule of Zinn. Bartley claims to provide
" students, researchers and the intellectually curious with unlimited access
to books and information on the Web, free of change."

pertaining to Biomedical imaging, coordinates the allocation of pooled
computer and research resources, trains medical students, graduate students,
residents, and faculty in interdisciplinary imaging and computer techniques,
and plays an advisory role in joint equipment acquisitions.
Bristol
Biomedical Images Archive --
This categorized archive maintained by the University of Bristol, United
Kingdom, contains more than 20, 000 images for teaching. A search engine
allows for retrieval of images on specific topics or conditions. Users
can search engine allows for retrieval of images on specific topics or
conditions. Users can search and browse the archive without registering,
but, to download full-size images, users must complete a free registration
process. The creators of the archive allow free use of the images for teaching
and educational purposes.

Medical
Informatics at RWJMS -- The faculty
in the department of Pathology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
(RWJMS) and at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) have been
developing imaging tools for cell and molecular biology studies as well
as for clinical diagnostic purposes.
Molecule
of the Month -- Each month a new molecule
will be added to the list on this page. The links will take you to a page
at one of the Web sites at a University Chemistry Department or commercial
site in the UK, the US, or anywhere in the world, where useful (and hopefully
entertaining!), information can be found about a particularly interesting
molecule.

Clinical Diagnosis
The
R.A.L.E Repository -- Presents digital
recordings of respiratory sounds in health and disease. These are sounds
that doctors and nurses hear with their stethoscopes.
The
Atlas of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy --
This atlas was produced by David M. Martin, M.D., and Ralph C. Lyons, M.D.,
both certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American
Board of Gastroenterology.
Dentistry
Oral
Pathology Image Database -- The goal
of this atlas is to show multiple examples of important lesions of the
oral cavity. One should never diagnose a lesion simply by visually inspecting
it. The patient history and physical examination are critically important.
Comments and suggestions regarding this student project are welcome, please
send comments regarding design to: Craig O'Donoghue and comments regarding
content to Michael Finkelstein, D.D.S., M.S.
Dermatology
Atlas
of Dermatology Information -- Edited
by Jason R. Swanson, M.D. and Jeffrey L. Melton, B.A., this dermatology
imagebase is a tremendous resource for educational purposes. The site is
sorted alphabetically by disease.
DOIA:
Dermatology Online Atlas -- Copyrighted
by the Department of Dermatology of School of Medicine, Friedrich-Alexander-Unversity
of Erlangen-Nurnberg, this dermatologic image database is aimed to aides
in teaching and diagnosis. All the images are copyrighted and are not free
for commercial institutions. For educational institution (such as university),
the owner grants the right to reproduce the images e.g. as slides or to
publicly display the images free to change. No prior approval is necessary,
but the acknowledgment of the image source is required. Please check their
FAQ.
Emergency Medicine
EMBBS--
Provides useful collections of relevant clinical photographs, radiographs,
EKG's, lectures, etc. Sections include: Radiology
Library, CT Scan Library, Medical
Photograph Library, Pediatric
Emergency Medicine Topics, Megacode
Simulator, Electrocardiogram
of the Month and EKG
Fileroom.
Imaging
Encyclopedia of Pediatric Disease --
Paediapedia is aimed at the radiology resident learning pediatric radiology
for the first time, the pediatric radiology fellow mastering pediatric
radiology for the first time, and for the general radiologist who does
a small amount of pediatric imaging on a daily basis. The neonate chest
is extensively covered.
Histology
Histology
Laboratory -- Histology slides database
created by John A. McNulty, Ph.D., Professor of the Department of Cell
Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy, Loyola University Medical Education
Network.
Histology
Lessons -- contains lessons on blood,
epithelium, peripheral nervous tissues, salivary glands and exocrine pancreas,
and a self quiz.
Neurology
Eye
Simulation Allication -- This application
simulates eye motion and demonstrates the effects of disabling one or more
of the 12 eyes muscles and one or more of the 6 cranial nerves that control
eye motion. The purpose of this simulator is to teach medical students
and doctors how the eye motion will change with pathology of the eye muscles
and cranial nerves and what to look for during a standard neurological
eye exam. You need the Macromedia Shockwave Plug-in in order to see the
eyes.
Flybrain
-- Flybrain contains neuroanatomical peer
reviewed descriptions of the central and peripheral nervous system of Drosophila
melanogaster . At the 'entry level' of the 'Atlas', the user will find
a hypertext tour guide to the basic structure of the nervous system. Deeper
levels will contain more specific information concerning different anatomical
structures, developmental stages, and visualization techniques.
Neuroanatomy
