Welcome to the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey - George F. Smith Library of the Health Sciences.
This guide is designed as a brief overview to the extensive resources of the UMDNJ - University Libraries on the Newark campus.
The UMDNJ - University Libraries or Smith Library Home page serves as the gateway to a variety of information resources - both print and electronic, as well as those in other media.
Library registration is essential to access electronic resources from off-campus locations. Make sure that you have been registered by checking at the Circulation Desk on your next visit to the Smith Library.
In July 2007, the UMDNJ - University Libraries adopted a new access policy. All faculty, staff, and students of the University are required to wear their UMDNJ ID when entering the library and will card swipe it to enter the building.
Visitors to the Smith Library are required to stop at the library's Public Safety post to obtain permission to enter. Those with valid ID from universities/colleges, from New Jersey state, county, and municipal health care agencies, and from hospitals will be allowed to enter the library and use resources after first registering with the Public Safety officer.
Members of the general public must apply for permission to use the Library. Request forms are available online or with the Public Safety officer.
The staff of the UMDNJ - George F. Smith Library of the Health Sciences look forward to providing all users with information resources and services essential to education, research, patient care, and outreach programs of the university.
