Remote Access Information

What you need before you start.

1.    Your need to register with your local UMDNJ campus library.

When you register as a UMDNJ Library patron, a remote access account is automatically created for you. This account consists of a username and a password. Your username is your last name. For UMDNJ students, faculty, and staff, your password is the last four digits of your UMDNJ ID Number. For affiliated individuals, your password is the last four digits of your Social Security number. For example, John Miller with an UID of a00256789 would have a Username of miller and a password of 6789.

If you have a compound name with or without hyphens: Drop the hyphen and leave a space. Sherry Smith-Jones becomes smith jones. Roberta Bronson Fitzpatrick becomes bronson fitzpatrick.
If your last name includes an apostrophe: Drop the apostrophe and leave no space. Mark O'Rourke becomes orourke.

If you have a UMDNJ Libraries barcode on your ID card, you are probably already a registered UMDNJ Library patron. If you are uncertain, contact your local UMDNJ Campus Library for further information.

Please be aware that after you register, you will need to wait until the following day to use your remote access account.

And you also need:

2.   A Computer, a web browser and an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

• A computer running Windows95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP or Mac OS.
• A web browser such as Internet Explorer, Netscape or an ISP-provided browser such as that used with AOL.
• A working ISP connection. This could be a network connection outside of UMDNJ, a modem dial-up/PPP connection, a cable modem or a DSL connection.
• You will need to enable "cookies" on your web browser. Most people already have cookies enabled. If you get an error message telling you that you need to enable cookies, please click on the Frequently Asked Questions link above for instructions specific to your browser type.
