Research Services
The Internet2 consortium is best described by the I2 consortium's "About Internet2" statement as follows ...
"Internet2 is a consortium being led by 207 universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies, accelerating the creation of tomorrow's Internet. Internet2 is recreating the partnership among academia, industry and government that fostered today's Internet in its infancy."
The primary benefits/goals of Internet2 as they relate to UMDNJ are to:
- Provide a rapid communications link for researchers on all UMDNJ
campuses. - Leverage this rapid network infrastructure for purposes of research
collaboration and biomedical education between UMDNJ campuses and with
other academic institutions and industry. - Develop new software technologies to advance research collaboration
and biomedical education initiatives. - Enable large file transfer between collaborators or into storage tiers.
- CPU resource sharing over a campus grid infrastructure.
