High performance computing (HPC)
Overview
High performance computing (HPC) is one of the key elements of successful Cyberinfrastructure in a life sciences environment. Many problems at the frontiers of discovery in the life sciences require extraordinary computational equipment and support services. Through a combination of advanced machinery and a scientific staff with expertise in computational biology, the IST division of High Performance and Research Computing provides an important resource to researchers with demanding computational problems. HP&RC scientists typically collaborate with the scientific cores and faculty in all phases of research and its attendant funding cycle. In addition to direct collaboration in research projects, HP&RC maintains easily accessible computational resources supporting the common tools of bioinformatics, statistics and molecular modeling.
