Dr. Du obtained his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in 2004 in computational molecular biology. Afterwards he received postdoc training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and IBM computational biology center in Yorktown Heights, NY. Dr. Du has extensive training and experiences in biological sequence and structure analysis, proteomics, simulation, data mining, and software development.
Dr. Du's recent interest is primarily in the area of next generation sequencing (NGS) and its applications in genetics and gene expression studies. With the incoming flood of NGS data, there is much demand for advanced hardware, software, and skinware (i.e., computational scientists). Some of his projects and collaborations include: algorithm and software for RNA-seq to detect alternative splcing isoforms; study of host-pathogen interaction in TB using RAN-seq; detection of genetic variations among latent TB strains; human exome resequencing to find genetic variations associated with aggressive peridontitis; study of protein-DNA binding using Chip-Seq.
