5- Digit Dialing Interruption of Service
UMDNJ 5- Digit Dial Maintenance Schedule > Go
In preparation for the deployment of a new Unified Communications and Voice- Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone system throughout the University, Verizon must perform maintenance on the 5 digit dialing system in Newark.
This maintenance will be performed on a nightly basis between the hours of 8:00 PM and 7:00 AM, Sunday- Thursday, beginning Tuesday, July 24, 2012 and ending on August 23, 2012.
During these maintenance windows, there will be multiple, but very brief interruptions of service. Callers may receive a fast busy signal when 5- digit dialing to numbers on the Newark Campus including those numbers dialed from other Campuses. These brief outages will last for a few moments for each phone number. Call forwarding programming will also be interrupted during this time for numbers that are call forwarded via 5-digit dialing and for numbers that “bounce” or “roll-over” to other numbers.
If you receive a fast busy while attempting to 5-digit dial a number, please hang up and dial the 10- digit number. Specifically, if you need to reach Public Safety, please dial:
973-972-4490 for emergencies
973-972-4491 for non-emergencies
