Karen Maxim
Karen Maxim is the co-coordinator UMDNJ-CMHC at Piscataway-Suicide prevention project. Her primary efforts are in the development and implementation of a Crisis Intervention Training Model for school personnel, helping to draft N.J. State legislation on Adolescent Suicide Prevention (bill #2005), planning and coordination of several state conferences on adolescent suicide, and the development of student curricula, teacher and parent awareness workshops. Ms. Maxim has provided consultation to over 50 NJ school districts after the suicide death of students through a grant from the Department of Education. Schools served include Bergenfield High School, where cluster suicides occurred in 1987. Ms. Maxim was appointed to a special task force by the Center for Disease Control to develop guidelines for response after cluster suicides. She facilitates a monthly education and support group for survivors of family member suicide in which over 800 families have participated. In addition, she has organized eight annual regional conferences for survivors of suicide.
Karen Dunne Maxim, RN, MS, clinician supervisor, was honored by the Mental Health Association of New Jersey on May 31, 2001. Ms. Maxim was the recipient of the "Distinguished Mental Health Professional Award."
