Project: Course-Specific Educational Training

Project PEACE promotes conflict- and violence-free climates in school and community settings by providing training and consultation services to various audiences, including school administrators, school staff, parents, students, community leaders/groups, and professional organizations in society at large. OPSR staff can meet each client's unique needs by conducting a comprehensive needs/resource assessment prior to service delivery. Project PEACE is an umbrella program, encompassing numerous independent but interrelated training courses and interventions, including:

*Creating Safe Schools: A Comprehensive Model - A two-day training program for school administrators and supervisory staff that emphasizes the components that need to be in place to ensure that educational facilities adequately address the prevention, intervention, and post-intervention needs essential to achieving and maintaining a safe environment. The course offers opportunities for shared problem-solving, information regardign current resources, and technical assistance.

*Administrative/Environmental Intervention - Consultation for school and program administrators regarding policies, program development, community linkages, and climate improvement.

*Awareness Training - Various training sessions designed to increase participants' awareness of current societal topics. Available courses include: Violence Prevention, Cultura & Conflict, Diversity in the Workplace, Behavioral Management, Children & Loss, Youth & Acute/Chronic Exposure to Violence, Teens in Abusive Relationships, and Teachable Moments in the Classroom.

*Anger Management - Participants learn and practice strategies for helping students to deal constructively with angry feelings toward others.

*Curriculum Consultation - Provides educators with the knowledge and skills to select, develop and implement violence prevention related programs on their premises.

*Communication Skills - A course tailored to organizational needs, covering basic and advanced skills.

*Intervening with High-Risk Youth - Basic and advanced levels of training for educators and youth workers on identifying, working with, and effectively referring youths at high risk for violent behavior.

*Positive Parenting - Workshops for parents to help them develop the awareness, skills and parent-child relationship dynamics that can assist them in teaching their children how to revolve conflicts peacefully
