Conflict Resolution and Mediation Training Project

Subject: Mediation & Resolving Conflicts

Project: Course-Specific Education Programs

This project, consisting of a set of training courses for various audiences, covers both general and specific aspects of conflict resolution and mediation applicable to any system, setting and relationship:

*Basic & Advanced Conflict Resolution Training - Available in half-day, full-day, or two-day course format, this training for all populations informs participants about the casuses and nature of conflict and provides strategies to minimize the occurrence of and de-escalate disputes. Trainees learn about their own conflict resolution styles, as well as how to enhance their skill level in problem solving, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal and cross-cultural conflict resolution.

*Conflict Resolution Education in the Classroom - Participants apply conflict resolution strategies and techniques to their work with children in the classroom. Case scenarios, role-plays, and video vignettes are used in this active training course. Participants are also provided an opportunity to share with one another their successes and lessons learned.

*Adult-Led Mediation Training - A six-day course designed to teach basic skills and techniques in alternative dispute resolution to adults who plan to provide mediation services.

*Peer Mediation - Students gain an awareness of their own conflict resolution styles and degrees of effectiveness, learn how to appropriately resolve their own interpersonal conflicts, and then are trained to implement a structured model for assisting their peers in managing conflicts.

*Peer Mediation Program Coordinator Training - A two-day course designed to provide peer mediator program coordinators with the information and skills essential to developing, implementing, and coordinating a peer-led mediation program. Course also covers selection criteria for youth and guidelines for maintaining an effective mediation program.
