Professor
Lynn
Robin Miller, J.D. CYT, CHC, is an Assistant Professor
in the Department of Primary Care and the Institute
for Complementary & Alternative Medicine (ICAM),
within the School of Health Related Professions (SHRP)
at UMDNJ.
From
November 2005 until August 2008, Ms. Miller served in
the capacity of Director of Education for ICAM.
All at ICAM, and in particular Dr. Perlman, wish to
thank Lynn for the role she has played as Director and
to express our excitement for her in her new role as
faculty. Before
stepping down to devote more time to corporate consulting,
she was primarily responsible for designing and initiating
the Integrative Health & Wellness track within SHRP
Masters of Science in Health Sciences program; overseeing
and expanding the Institute's Wellness and Distinguished
Lecture Series; establishing ICAM's continuing education
programs; and creating and editing the Institute's Newsletter.
In addition to teaching at the University, she continues
to coordinate the Institute's wellness program within
New Community Corporation, Newark 's largest low income
housing project.
Ms.
Miller earned a B.A. in Psychology and English
(Journalism) Cum Laude from SUNY College at New
Paltz, and a JD from Albany Law School of Union University,
and was awarded the “Williams Prize” upon graduation.
While practicing law with a major medical malpractice
defense firm in New York City , she developed a strong
interest in Eastern systems of self-development and
mastery.
A
certified yoga teacher since 1990 and certified health
coach, Ms. Miller completed a two-year post-graduate
program in Holistic Studies and Comparative Psychology
at the Himalayan International Institute. During this
intensive program, Ms. Miller had the opportunity to
study with the founder, a Himalayan Master, who, as
a consultant to the Menninger Institute had demonstrated
control over “unconscious” processes including brain
wave and heart function previously thought to be impossible.
She also apprenticed with one of the country's leading
experts and earliest pioneers in stress management and
biofeedback.
In
1992, Ms. Miller was hospitalized with severe internal
injuries following a nearly fatal car accident. She
credits allopathic medicine with saving her life, and
complementary healing interventions with accelerating
her healing process, including the spontaneous regeneration
of her right kidney. Subsequently, in addition to building
a private law practice, Ms. Miller continued to receive
training in mind/body modalities, becoming a Wellness
Educator, Life Coach and Corporate Trainer. She has
taught yoga, mediation, wellness, self-care and stress
management in a variety of educational and corporate
settings including hospitals, colleges, prisons, manufacturing
plants and international corporations.
Ms.
Miller has also been active in her community, co-founding
two community holistic organizations, Morning Star,
Inc and Stonehedge Gardens, Inc. In addition to having
numerous articles and editorials published, she has
been featured in several newspapers. A Guardian ad-litem
for abused and dependent children, her volunteer work
in child advocacy earned her recognition by a regional
Pennsylvania magazine as one of the area's “movers and
shapers.” Ms. Miller has also served as a court-appointed
arbitrator, as well as in several governmental and legislative
capacities. She has authored several laws, including
a new section of the revised New York City charter passed
in voter referendum, advised on the “I LOVE NY” tourism
campaign, and on key economic development programs.
