Karen
Malone, MA, BA (Hons.), PGCE, is the Director of Education and Assistant
Professor at the Institute for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
within the Department of Primary Care of the School of Health Related
Professions .
She
has a Master's Degree with Distinction from the University of Exeter
in the United Kingdom , a Master's level teaching qualification
specializing in the higher education of health professionals and
a Bachelor's Degree in French and Spanish.
Originally
a qualified Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute working
in a large corporate environment, her role in graduate training
and development led her into the academic sphere at a number of
universities in the U.K. Initially she was a senior lecturer involved
in teaching, curriculum development, and managing the design and
delivery of Master's, Bachelor's, Professional Development and multi-media
distance learning programs for health professionals. In addition,
she worked in health education change management with a number of
key government and statutory agencies, including the National Health
Service and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, in establishing
new health education curricula and in developing national multi-disciplinary
occupational standards for health care professionals.
Her
skills and experience in health education change management led
Karen to work internationally, first in New Zealand and now in the
United States . In New Zealand she was an Academic Manager, Head
of Faculty and Consultant in Education Management Policy, working
closely with key government agencies including the Ministry of Education,
the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and the Tertiary Education
Commission. Working at strategic level with these agencies and with
a range of other stakeholders, she was instrumental in developing
and strengthening educational capability, and teaching and learning
outcomes, at both institutional and national levels.
At
UMDNJ, Karen's goals are to work alongside institutional, local
and national stakeholders to foster links between conventional and
complementary medicine, enhance educational outcomes, and strengthen
the national and international profile of ICAM.
