American Botanical Council

A non-profit organization established in 1988 with the mission of educating the public on the use of herbs and phytomedicinals.

American Herbal Association Products -Mission of association is to serve its members by promoting responsible commerce of products which contain herbs and which are used to enhance quality of life.

American Herbalist Guild
  -Develop a professional body that promotes and maintains excellence in herbalism, including individual and planetary health.
- Strengthen and further the network of support and communication between herbalists region by region and nation by nation.
- Encourage high levels of ethics and integrity in all areas of herbalism
- Integrate herbalism into community health care.

CAM on PubMed
NCCAM and the National Library of Medicine have partnered to create CAM on PubMed, a subset of NLM's PubMed. PubMed provides access to citations from the MEDLINE database, and additional life science journals. It also includes links to many full-text articles at journal websites and other related web resources.

Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine Research in Asthma, Allergy and Immunology at the University of California, Davis
This Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine is one of the centers established by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health and focuses on therapies for asthma.

Dr. Duke's Phytochemical and Ethnobotanical Databases
This rather technical website is maintained by The Southwest School of Botanical Medicine. It includes a huge database on botanical names, chemistry and activity of plants, and also links to nutrition resources.

eCAM- Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine from Oxford Journals
An international, peer-reviewed journal that encourages research in the new, yet ancient, world of complementary and alternative medicine.

HerbMed
HerbMed is an interactive, electronic herbal database that provides hyperlinked access to the scientific data underlying the use of herbs for health. It is an impartial, evidence-based information resource provided by the nonprofit Alternative Medicine Foundation, Inc.

Herb Research Foundation
The Herb Research Foundation (HRF) is a nonprofit research and educational organization focusing on herbs and medicinal plants.

The IN-CAM Outcomes Database is a collection of outcome measures of particular relevance to Complementary and Alternative Medicine research.

Our goals are to:

  • Make practical information available on a wide range of outcome measures relevant to CAM research.

  • To organize and categorize outcome measures within a unique Framework of Outcome Domains that integrates  measurable domains of health into a unified scheme.

National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM)

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) supports research and training in many areas of unconventional medical treatments or preventative therapies. New Medicine PBS Documentary. This was a PBS special on NJN Channel 50. THE NEW MEDICINE was a two-hour program exploring the critical role the patient’s attitude and lifestyle played in the body’s capacity to heal, and examined how the medical community is beginning to embrace a new range of treatment options, from acupuncture to mind-body approaches once considered fringe. CAM In The News:

Acupuncture provides pain relief and improves function for people with osteoarthritis of the knee and serves as an effective complement to standard care. This landmark study was funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) and the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), both components of the National Institutes of Health. The findings of the study-the longest and largest randomized, controlled phase III clinical trial of acupuncture ever conducted-were published in the December 21, 2004, issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine.
