Training & Organizational Development
Career Training and Advancement Center
The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey offers a variety of job training and educational programs to our employees in entry-level positions interested in building career opportunities in health care fields where staff shortages exist. The primary objectives of the Center are to build employee pride and retention and improve the education, skills and earning potential of our current workforce.
There is ample opportunity to grow at UMDNJ and your development can begin in the many courses that are provided by the Office of Training & Organizational Development in the Human Resources Department. You’ll find the Career Training and Advancement Center (CTAC) a resource for both staff and management.
The center also serves as a resource for management to find staff with the specific skill sets required to fill vacancies. As staff matriculate through CTAC programs they can be referred to managers interested in finding staff who are already in the UMDNJ family and are familiar with UMDNJ standards and practices for a seamless fit.
Mission
The mission of the CTAC is to offer high quality, innovative educational training programs to employees. The programs are designed to develop, improve performance and to retain the brightest and most committed employees at UMDNJ. CTAC courses are offered in line with positions that are difficult to fill within the university.
The goal of the center is to provide career training and development services that will assist employees currently in entry level positions to acquire the skills necessary to advance their careers at UMDNJ in specific healthcare fields were growth is expected.
Certification Programs
The Career Training & Advancement Center, launched in the fall of 2002, offers a variety of training and certification programs to employees in entry level positions. Programs are based on available funding. They have been conducted by Essex and Middlesex County College, and the National Healthcareer Association after hours, either on-site or at a location close to one of our major campuses. The programs we have offered based on projected staffing needs include: English as a Second Language, Spanish for Health Care Workers, Medical Coding and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant.
A clinical track pilot program is also being developed on the Newark campus scheduled to run this year. The Patient Care Technician Program will offer higher level instruction for Certified Nurse Assistants and will culminate in NHA certification.
Please note that while opportunities to enroll in these programs are limited, we are looking to expand future offerings as we seek additional funding sources. Announcements will be made as new programs become available.
