Gifts and Gratuities

PURPOSE: To set policy regarding the acceptance of gifts and gratuities.
RESPONSIBILITY: The Vice President for Human Resources is to ensure compliance with this policy.
POLICY:
University staff members are not permitted to accept gifts, money, goods, services, favors, entertainment or any form of gratuity offered by any individuals or company vendors who are interested in doing business with the University or in influencing the staff members performance of their duties and responsibilities at the University.
Similarly, all staff members are expected to provide the most efficient service to the public and patients and are not permitted to accept tips, gifts or gratuities of any kind from the public, from patients or their families and visitors, or from any other staff member.
Any such gifts received by staff must be returned to the donor. Proof of return, such as a receipt, must be given to the staff member's supervisor. If it is not possible to return a gift, the gift must be forwarded by the department supervisor to the Treasurer/Controller's office for disposition.
Any member of the public wishing to make gifts to the University should be directed to the University's Development Office.
Any staff members who violate this policy shall be subject to appropriate
disciplinary action by both the
University and by the State of New Jersey Executive Commission on Ethical
Standards.
