PURPOSE: To set policy regarding the management of Unemployment Compensation.

RESPONSIBILITY: The Vice President for Human Resources is to ensure compliance with this policy.

POLICY:

Qualified staff members who become separated from their employment at the University are eligible to apply for unemployment compensation benefits.

Supervisors shall direct staff members whose employment is terminating to the campus Human Resources Office.

The campus Human Resources Office (Benefits staff) shall:

The former staff member's immediate supervisor (and/or Human Resources Representative) shall attend hearings when deemed necessary and advisable.

If it is determined that a former staff member is claiming and/or receiving Unemployment Compensation under fraudulent conditions, the specifics of the case shall be forwarded to the appropriate State agency for investigation and possible criminal prosecution under the applicable statutes of the State of New Jersey.
