IN REMEMBRANCE OF SEPTEMBER 11TH

World Trade Center Disaster Response: The disaster of Tuesday, September 11, 2001 will be remembered as one of the worst in our nation's history. The response to this tragedy was unprecedented in nature and scope. Dozens of University Hospital staff members - Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers-rushed to the scene and we are very proud of them. The University will observe a moment of silence at 9:11 a.m. on September 11, 2002.

Blood Drive - A time to help and heal others on Wednesday, September 11th from 11:00 AM - 4:30 PM in the Grand Foyer, B Level, Medical Science Building.

A "Tree of Life" Unveiling - A time to reflect, heal and renew on Wednesday, September 11th at 3:00 PM in the University Hospital Cafeteria. All are invited to enjoy the music, light refreshments and words of hope and inspiration.

The Newark Campus - New Jersey Dental School
A "Remembrance Ceremony" will be held briefly on 9/11 at 9:50 AM in the quad courtyard. All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend. Classes will end at 9:40 AM that day in order to allow students and faculty the opportunity to attend. Staff will be permitted to leave their work area at 9:40 AM to attend the ceremony.

A moment of reflection will be observed at the beginning of each class on 9/11. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to attend one of the programs scheduled on the University campuses.

The Newark Campus - School of Health Related Professions
Two open discussion groups for students, faculty, and staff will be held on Thursday, September 12th at either 12:00-1:00 p.m. or 1:00-2:00 p.m., on the 9th floor - Room #921. Robin Eubanks, MA - Dept. of Interdisciplinary Studies, will facilitate the discussion group. Feel free to call if you have any questions at 973-972-4136.As we look forward to the beginning of the new school year, we also face the anniversary of the events of September 11th last year. We recognize that everyone was impacted by the events of 9/11 in varying degrees and we will begin to have a great deal of news coverage of the event, including film footage of the downing of the towers and other troubling scenes.

The Scotch Plains Campus - School of Health Related Professions
The Scotch Plains Campus Community will gather at the School's flag pole at 12:00 noon to recognize the event with songs, poems, readings and a moment of silence. Also there will be personal accounts from those family members who were directly involved in that tragic event on September 11, 2001.

The New Brunswick Campus - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
RWJUH Courtyard Program (coordinated by RWJUH) September 11, 2002 will begin at 8:30 a.m. Brief prayer · Acknowledgement of those from RWJMS and RWJUH who were directly involved · Moment of reflection · Ms. Mirabel Davis will perform two songs. A Blood drive scheduled in the Courtyard later in the day.

The Piscataway Campus- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
Great Hall Program will begin at 8:45 a.m. · Moment of reflection · Reading by Dr. Russell McIntyre · Violin piece played by student, Lauren Arnold

The Piscataway/New Brunswick Campus - School of Public Health
A moment of reflection will be observed at the beginning of each class on 9/11. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to attend one of the programs scheduled on the University campuses.

The Camden Campus - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
In the morning, there will be a moment of reflection during each clerkship. ERB 240 Program will begin at 12:00 noon · Moment of reflection · A student will speak about the meaning of the day personally and professionally

The Stratford Campus - The School of Osteopathic Medicine and The University Doctors
A Blood Drive will take place on
Wednesday, September 11, 2002 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Academic Center. Call 856-566-6149 to schedule a time. Giving blood is a selfless way to remember the tragedy of 9/11/01. Show Your Resolve… Give Blood. Co-sponsored by SOMA American Red Cross Together we can save a life University level healthcare right here in South Jersey. UMDNJ-SOM students contact SOMA officers to schedule a time. Also on September 11, the University Wellness Center at the UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine will launch a month-long commemorative T-shirt sale. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will go to the Stratford Fire Department for the purchase of a new communications equipment. In addition, new members who join the Wellness Center during the month will also have the option of donating a portion of their membership dues to this fund.
