Stratford Students perform to Benefit Camden County's Women's Center

STRATFORD — More than 40 students from the UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford will present two performances of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" to raise awareness and funds for a local organization that offers domestic violence outreach services to area women and their children. The performances will take place in the Academic Center auditorium, on the medical school’s Laurel Road campus, on Thursday, March 1, at 8 p.m., and on Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m. Several student groups, including the Obstetrics and Gynecology Club, the Medical Students for Choice and the school’s chapter of the National Osteopathic Women’s Physician Association, have joined forces to stage this year’s production.
Each year, Ms. Ensler allows volunteers to stage benefit performances around the world of her award-winning play as part of a global movement to help end violence against women and girls. The UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine students will donate 90 percent of the proceeds from the Stratford performances to the Camden County Women’s Shelter with the remaining money earmarked for the Global V-Day Campaign for Women in Conflict Zones. Last year, the Stratford students raised more then $3,500 through a single performance of the play.
