STRATFORD — Dr. Thomas Cavalieri, of Mullica Hill, and Dr. James Weese, of Voorhees , were recently named among the “top doctors” in Philadelphia Magazine’s annual survey of physicians. Dr. Cavalieri, the interim dean of the UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine and founding director of the New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging, was selected in the field of geriatrics, and Dr. Weese, professor of Surgery and director of Oncology at the medical school, was named to the magazine’s list of the area’s best surgeons.

For its annual compilation of top physicians, Philadelphia Magazine employs the services of Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd., publisher of consumer guidebooks that list physicians from throughout the country who are considered the best in their specialties. The company polls physicians in private practice, medical centers and specialty and teaching hospitals, inviting them to nominate other physicians for their excellence in medicine, research and interpersonal skills. Additionally, for the Philadelphia Magazine list, the company surveyed administrators and chiefs of service for every hospital in Camden, Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware counties. The entire “2007 Top Doctors” list is available on the magazine’s website at http://www.philadelphiamagazine.com/.

The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) is the nation's largest free-standing public health sciences university with more than 5,700 students attending the state's three medical schools, its only dental school, a graduate school of biomedical sciences, a school of health related professions, a school of nursing and its only school of public health, on five campuses. Last year, there were more than two million patient visits to UMDNJ facilities and faculty at campuses in Newark, New Brunswick/Piscataway, Scotch Plains, Camden and Stratford. UMDNJ operates University Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center in Newark, and University Behavioral HealthCare, a mental health and addiction services network.
