Scientists, Clinicians and Students Present Findings at Annual Research Day Event

STRATFORD—More than 70 research projects that explore the miracles and mysteries of health and medical science will be on display at the 10th annual Research Day program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine, on Thursday, March 16.

Research Day highlights scientific inquiry by students and faculty at the school, which annually receives more in federal research grants than any other osteopathic medical school in the country.

This year's program reflects the wide expanse of research at the medical school, including studies examining RNA transcription, the development of sexual traits in lower animals, cultural differences in the delivery of health care and the attitudes of physicians, patients and their families toward end of life care. Researchers also will be available throughout the program to answer questions about their projects.

The keynote presentation at noon will be "Hereditary Cancer" by Dr. Alfred G. Knudson, Jr., an internationally renowned expert from the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Dr. Knudson is a 1998 recipient of the Albert Lasker Award for Clinical Medical Research. The Albert Lasker award has long been considered "America's Nobel Prize" and is one of the world’s most distinguished awards recognizing an individual’s career achievements.

Events will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the medical school's Academic Center, on Laurel Road in Stratford.
