UMDNJ Administrators Honor Statewide Legislators and Nursing Students
Honorees Congressman Donald Payne, Senator Joseph Vitale & Assemblywoman Joan Quigley
NEWARK, NJ (12/15/05)—Thirty nursing students and three legislators will be honored at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) during the Nursing Student Ambassador induction ceremony on Monday, December 19, 6:30 p.m., at the UMDNJ-School of Nursing in Newark.
During a tribute, Congressman Donald Payne, State Senator Joseph Vitale and Assemblywoman Joan Quigley will be named honorary ambassadors.
Now in its second year, the Nursing Student Ambassador program honors academically gifted students by appointing them as official liaisons for the UMDNJ-School of Nursing. These students are enrolled in the school's Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree program or the Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) degree program.
The student ambassadors represent the UMDNJ-School of Nursing by serving as hosts to dignitaries who visit the school, conducting campus tours, and coordinating special events. They also participate in recruitment activities such as college fairs and admissions programs at area high schools and colleges. In addition, the ambassadors tutor their peers and participate in community service activities.
Sponsored by the school's Center for Academic Support Services (CASS), the Ambassador Program is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration. For information, contact Donita Walker at
