Health Professionals at UMDNJ Offer Free Women's Health Seminar
A free seminar about a misunderstood gynecological infection
called Vulvodynia will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 6 p.m.
to 7 p.m., at the Women's Health Institute at the University of
Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)-Robert Wood Johnson
Medical School, 125 Paterson Street, Room 2120, New Brunswick.
Dr. Gloria Bachmann, director of the Women's Health Institute
at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, will host the
"Chronic Vulvar Pain Educational Seminar." Vulvodynia is characterized
by chronic pain in the area surrounding the vagina that is often
mistaken for a yeast infection. Symptoms include persistent itching,
burning, stinging and tenderness in the vaginal area. According
to the American Journal of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Vulvodynia
affects between five and 15 percent of American women.
Additional seminar speakers include Dr. Raymond Rosen, director
of Programs in Sexual Health at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson
Medical School, and Joan Hammond, M.S.N., an advanced practice
nurse at the Women's Health Institute.
