Physician at UMDNJ Sponsors Climb-a-Thon and Outreach Day Activity
A physician at the University
of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) who established
a rock-climbing program for children with physical disabilities
is seeking individuals to participate in a "Climb-a-Thon and Outreach
Day." The activity will be held on Saturday, September 28, from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the START Indoor Climbing Wall, Garden State
Plaza Mall in Paramus.
The event will benefit
Peak Potential, Inc., a non-profit organization founded by Dr. JenFu
Cheng, a medical resident in the Department of Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation at the UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. Peak
Potential, Inc. offers free rock-climbing sessions designed for
children with neurological, muscular and skeletal disorders such
as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.
The program is held twice
a week for children between ages three and 15. Assisted by a team
of trained volunteers, the children wear harnesses and climb an
indoor rock. Although the New Jersey Rock Gym donates time at the
gym to the program, additional sessions are necessary to serve a
greater number of children. For more information, please contact
Dr. JenFu Cheng at (973) 731-0374.
