Microbes and Infectious Disease Microbiology -- MICRN 5233
Welcome to the class web site for Microbes and Infectious Disease.
The class will meet for 3 hours once a week for 14 weeks. The course will cover general concepts and specific examples of the interactions between pathogenic microbes, including bacteria, fungi, parasites and animal viruses, and their human host. Particular attention will be directed to the molecular description of microbial virulence factors and host defenses.
The course consists of lectures, short film clips, readings and occasional in-class discussions.
Student Evaluation: Grades will be based on two in-class exams (Mid-term, 40%; Final, 50%) and a written report (10%) that will be due before the end of the semester. The written report will be based on a topic chosen by the student from a list of topics assigned by the instructor toward the beginning of the semester.
