Molecular and Cellular Immunology/Immunology (PATH-5210/N5211)

Molecular and Cellular Immunology/Immunology:
This graduate level course aims at covering the basics of the immune response followed by presentations of new developments in the field. There are no pre-requisites for the course but previous exposure to immunology is an asset. The topics covered include cells and tissues involved in both innate and acquired immunity, analysis of both normal immune responses to infection and cancer, as well as an understanding of abnormal immune responses in allergy, hypersensitivity, inflammation, autoimmunity and immunodeficiency. Up-to-date advancements in such areas as the generation of diversity, cytokines, cell signaling, neuroimmunology, immunogenetics and molecular techniques will be presented. The course involves student participation and in-class presentations in addition to didactic lectures. The course is team-taught with presentation by individual faculty with expertise in particular areas. The ultimate goal of the course is to equip graduate students with a firm understanding of disease processes, which enable the student to apply the information to a wide variety of research topics.
