CELL BIOLOGY OF THE HOST RESPONSE TO INJURY -- CBMM 5330

Welcome to the Cellular Biology of the Host Response to Injury course webiste.


An advanced course for the basic and clinician scientist designed to examine the host's response to the early and late phases of injury. The response to injury involves a cascade of cellular and humoral interactions, involving bone marrow, circulating and local cells, and the biochemical mediators that control the activities of these cells. Dysfunction of the host response to injury can lead to severe pathological consequences, and understanding the mechanisms involved in the host response to injury provides a basis for our understanding of many pathological and disease processes. Lectures will provide details of host defense mechanisms at the cellular and molecular levels. Discussions will include the cells involved in modulation of the inflammatory process, the nature of the biochemical mediators produced by these cells and their mode of action, mechanisms involved in the control of cell migration and proliferation, and regulation of angiogenesis in wound repair. Inflammatory processes in the liver, heart, CNS and bone will be considerd. Invited speakers will discuss recent advances in our understanding of the inflammatory process and repair mechanisms, and will provide insight into current research activities in the area.
