The Pathology Department is located on C level of the Medical Science Building on the Newark Campus. The department offers spacious laboratories that are well equipped with the sophisticated instrumentation necessary for contemporary research in experimental pathology. In addition to the research facilities within the department, many faculty have collaborative associations with members of other basic science and clinical departments within the Graduate School.
The New Jersey Medical School Molecular Resource Facility is located within the Department. Under the direction of Dr. Robert Donnelly, the Facility contains instrumentation for the sequencing, synthesis and analysis of biologically relevant macromolecules. These instruments include:
Applied Biosystems 394 DNA/RNA Synthesizer
Applied Biosystems 433A Peptide Synthesizer
Applied Biosystems 491 Protein Sequencer
Molecular Dynamics FluorImager SI with ImageQuant Software and a dedicated Dell computer.
Molecular Dynamics PhosphoImager SI with ImageQuant Software and a dedicated Dell computer.
GeneAMP PCR System with a Perkin Elmer 9600 Thermocycler
Housing and care for experimental animals are provided by the Research Animal Facility, located on A level of the Medical Science Building. The George F. Smith Library contains about 90,000 volumes and subscribes to approximately 2,500 scientific journals, in addition to having access to on line bibliographical retrieval systems for literature searches.
