Course Description
This intensive two and a half day workshop includes lectures on key topics in management and treatment of tuberculosis including epidemiology, transmission & pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of TB, TB in children, MDR-TB, TB/HIV co-infection, and the role of surgery in TB. The format includes lectures discussions and case studies.

Target Audience
This workshop is designed for licensed healthcare professionals who are actively engaged in the management of patients with tuberculosis or TB control staff responsible for program management.

Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the principles of TB transmission, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Apply recent guidelines for the treatment of tuberculosis, contact investigation, and the use of new diagnostic procedures to the management of patients with tuberculosis
  • Discuss the management of TB in special patient populations, e.g., pediatric patients, persons with TB-HIV co-infection, and persons with drug resistant disease

Lodging is availalble at the Hampton Inn & Suites- Newark Riverwalk - in Harrison, NJ.The room rate is $119.00 + 15% tax. Rooms are available on a first come first served basis so please reserve a room ASAP. Please call 1-800-HAMPTON and ask for the UMDNJ rate.
Complimentary bus transportation will be provided between the hotel and the conference site.
The Hampton Inn has free airport shuttle service to and from Newark Liberty International Airport. When boarding the shuttle, make sure to specify that the Hampton Inn – Newark Riverwalk is your destination.

Continuing Education Credits

UMDNJ–Center for Continuing and Outreach Education (CCOE) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing education for physicians.

UMDNJ–CCOE designates this educational activity for a maximum of 16.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

UMDNJ-CCOE certifies that this continuing education activity meets the criteria for 1.65 Continuing Education Units (CEU’S), as defined by the National Task Force on the Continuing Education Unit, provided the activity is completed as designed. One CEU is awarded for 10 contact hours of instruction.
