Course Description
This course will utilize a combination of lectures, discussion, and small group activities to present an overview of the current situation in TB control in the United States and in Pennsylvania, with a focus on the current challenges, including drug resistance, and working with patients from other cultures.

Target Audience
This workshop is designed for public health nurses disease investigators, outreach workers

Objectives

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Describe the current epidemiology of TB, globally in the United States and in Pennsylvania
  • Describe development of drug resistant TB and identify challenges in medical and case management of drug resistant cases
  • Explain how cultural factors influence patient-provider interactions
  • Identify three successful techniques for using an interpreter in health care setting
