| The purpose of this course is to provide Public Health Nurses working in areas with low TB incidence with the necessary knowledge, skills, and background information to case manage TB cases. The course covers TB transmission, diagnosis, and treatment; laboratory testing; and nurse case management. The format includes lectures, interactive presentations, and group exercises. |

As the incidence of tuberculosis continues to decline, maintaining clinical and public health expertise in TB is particularly challenging. This training aims to build the TB knowledge base of clinical staff to facilitate appropriate risk assessment, testing, and treatment of TB.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Utilize principles of TB transmission and infection so that the spread of TB to the greater community may be prevented
- Apply current standards of practice in the diagnosis, treatment and management of active TB disease to ensure successful patient outcomes
- Review laboratory diagnostic tests in order to guarantee accurate submission and timely results
- Implement current recommendations for the risk assessment, testing, and treatment of latent TB infection to prevent development of active disease
- Apply principles of nurse case management when caring for patients with active TB

In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend the entire course and complete an evaluation. A post-course follow up evaluation will be sent to participants within 2 months of the course.
