| The purpose of this training is to provide clinicians with information on the diagnosis and case management of TB patients. Topics will include epidemiology, diagnosis, and contact investigations, as well as two breakout sessions providing an update on TB basics and advanced topics for experienced TB practitioners. The format includes lectures, discussions, and case studies. |
| This training is designed for public health nurses, as well as infection control practitioners, correctional health providers, nurses providing primary care, and nursing students. |
| As the incidence of tuberculosis continues to decline, maintaining clinical and public health expertise in TB is particularly challenging. Therefore, ongoing training and education are important for healthcare providers so they can develop and enhance skills in the diagnosis of TB, follow recommended treatment guidelines, and interact effectively with public health agencies. This type of training is also important for new clinicians working in TB control or other settings. |

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify special populations in Maine at higher risk for LTBI and TB disease in order to more rapidly recognize, diagnose, and treat patients
- Implement current TB testing recommendations to ensure timely diagnosis
- Identify components for planning and performing effective contact investigations
- Utilize principles of TB transmission and infection so that the spread of TB to the greater community may be prevented
- Coordinate with local providers and organizations in the management of patients with TB disease in order to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment adherence
- Apply principles of TB case management services to improve patient adherence and continuity of care
- Summarize new technical instructions for immigrants and refugees and use this knowledge to prioritize follow-up and correctly interpret medical histories
- Incorporate patients’ cultural perspectives and preferences to promote acceptance of treatment and encourage compliance

In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to complete attend the entire training and complete an online evaluation at the end of the course.

The Department of Public Safety is located at the Central Maine Commerce Center, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta, Maine.
Heading North on Interstate 95: Take Exit 112B (North Augusta, Belgrade exit) and head west for approximately 1.3 miles after leaving the exit ramp. The entrance to the Central Maine Commerce Center will be on your left.
Heading South on Interstate 95: Take Exit 112 (North Augusta, Belgrade exit) and head west for approximately 1.1 miles after leaving the exit ramp. The entrance to the Central Maine Commerce Center will be on your left.
After parking: enter the main entrance located at the right front of the building (by the flagpoles) and look for the Department of Public Safety signs. The Department of Public Safety reception area is located past the first set of double doors on your right after entering the lobby.
