Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

• Explain the relationship between TB and diabetes, and apply current recommendations for proper diagnosis and treatment of TB in patients with diabetes
• Utilize current recommendations for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of latent TB infection and TB disease in patients taking TNF-alpha inhibitors in order to avoid complications related to the development of TB in those infected and the cure of active TB disease
• Select appropriate medication regimens for patients with drug resistant disease and their contacts to increase cure rate and prevent development of further drug resistance
• Apply current recommendations for TB testing and diagnosis in patients being treated for bladder cancer with BCG so that patients are tested appropriately and diagnosed promptly
• Employ appropriate TB testing strategies for patients who are awaiting or have undergone organ transplants, in order to diagnose and treat them in a timely manner
• Summarize new research about TB diagnostic strategies and how to apply these strategies in various clinical settings
• Apply principles of infectiousness in order to accurately assess the risk of TB transmission
• Select an appropriate medication regimen for patients with TB-HIV co-infection to minimize drug-drug interactions and toxicities

In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend the entire course and complete an evaluation form at the end of the course. A post-course follow up evaluation will be sent to participants within 6 months of the course.
