With a surge
in population fueled by the area’s busy outpatient
practice, faculty, and hospital sponsored offerings
such as clinics, emergency department and ancillary
services, the eight story pre-cast concrete parking
deck with retail space is a welcome addition that
helps alleviate the area parking problem. It has 824
parking spaces, a net gain of 686 spaces over the
surface lot it replaced.
Located
adjacent to the New Jersey Medical School/University
Hospital Cancer Center and Ambulatory Care Center,
the first floor will house 18,400 square feet of retail
space which will not only bring the campus population
much needed products and services, but it will also
reinforce UMDNJ’s commitment to improving and
returning retail to Newark.
A covered
walkway offers direct access to the Ambulatory Care
Center improving pedestrian flow at this very busy
hospital entrance intersection. the deck opened in
early 2006.
