AMBULATORY CARE CENTER
140 Bergen Street
Newark Campus

Opened in
January 2006, the six-story, 185,722 square foot medical
office building for ambulatory outpatient services
will frame the healthcare gateway to UMDNJ’s
Newark Campus both structurally for its striking architecture
and for what it will offer.
Included
in the new building will be Pediatrics, Infectious
Diseases, Surgery, Medicine, and Urology. The Surgery
Department will accommodate subspecialties such as
Podiatry, Infusion, and ENT with Audiology. The Medicine
Department will house several components including
Gastrointestinal, Hypertension, UMDCare, Dermatology,
Cardiology, Nephrology, Metabolic and Endocrine.
The building
is also the headquarters for the New Jersey Poison
Information and Education System (NJPIES), which provides
statewide poison emergency action and information
services. Several shelled spaces for future fit outs
of radiological services, fluoroscopic equipment in
urology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation/Physiatry,
and retail on the ground floor are included in the
design.Orthopedics will relocate to ACC upon completion
of Radiology.
Located
in front of University Hospital and south of the Doctors’
Office Center, the main entrance is on the University
Hospital side of the building. The project will improve
the quality of care for patients while providing services
cost-effectively.
