The UMDNJ-School of Nursing

The UMDNJ-School of Nursing is a dynamic institution providing innovative leadership to its diverse constituencies through excellence in education, healthcare, research and service.  Since its establishment in 1992 as UMDNJ’s seventh school, it has offered a rich academic environment to prepare its students to meet the healthcare challenges of the 21st century.

Recognized as a center of excellence in academic nursing, it has become known as a multidisciplinary academic community and an innovator of new approaches to research, education, clinical practice and service. The School is a national and international leader advancing the science and practice of nursing to address such key issues as biobehavioral health, improving access to quality healthcare, eliminating health disparities, and improving health outcomes for vulnerable and under-served populations.

The School’s programs and curricula provide an articulated ladder for advanced education which reflects the changing roles and responsibilities of professional nurses and the growing emphasis placed on advanced education, research and clinical practice.  Nursing degree programs are offered at the Associate, Baccalaureate, Accelerated Second Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master’s and Post-Master’s Certificate levels. The Ph.D. program in Urban Systems is offered in partnership with Rutgers University and The New Jersey Institute of Technology. The School now enrolls more than 800 students in these programs.
