The UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School

For 50 years, the UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School (NJDS) has been shaping the future of dentistry through its innovative programs, challenging curriculum, cutting-edge research, and community service. NJDS faculty, many nationally renowned in their fields, include six members of the UMDNJ Master Educators’ Guild, several editors and contributors to national journals and the new editor of the prestigious Journal of the American Dental Association.

The school is at the forefront of today's technology, both in the classroom and in the laboratory.  The NJDS research budget has increased by 236% since the year 2000, and the members of the research team are leaders in new dental studies, varying from gene mapping to track tendencies to chronic periodontitis to studies of bacteria and their relationships to juvenile periodontal disease in minority populations.

A hallmark of NJDS is its commitment to people who do not have access to oral health care. In FY2005 alone, NJDS provided 106,000 patient visits at its Newark clinics and its satellite treatment centers throughout the state.  In addition, NJDS is part of a consortium dedicated to the early prevention, diagnosis and treatment of oral cancer.

The New Jersey Dental School has embarked on the most aggressive campaign in its history to increase physical space, secure resources for recruiting the best and brightest dental faculty and students and help to establish NJDS as the "place to go" for the best oral health care. The campaign offers supporters of the Dental School many opportunities to contribute to the growth of the only dental education facility in the state:

Capital Initiatives include naming opportunities for new construction and renovated space - everything from naming the new wing to being included on the Alumni Wall of Honor.

The NJDS Family Campaign, initiated in April 2005, has more than 50% participation and has already raised more than $500,000.

Endowed Faculty Opportunities include chairs, professorships, research fellowships and lectureships

Endowed Scholarships are special funds that support the education of our dental students.

Funding opportunities to provide for new clinical and faculty recruitment as the foundation for future Clinical Centers of Excellence at NJDS.
