NJMS Physician Honors
His Mother’s Memory
To honor the memory of his beloved mother who died of a stroke at a very young age, Adnan I. Qureshi, MD, and his family generously donated $250,000 to establish the Zeenet Qureshi Stroke Research Center at New Jersey Medical School (NJMS). The gift will support the exciting frontiers in cerebrovascular research currently being conducted at the medical school.
“This center is a dream come true for my family,” Dr. Qureshi, director of the NJMS Cerebrovascular Program. “We are hopeful that through the Center we will be able to develop new and more effective treatments for stroke and to train researchers and stroke specialists in the field of cerebrovascular diseases.”
Afshin Divani, PhD, has been named Director of the Center.
“Stroke is a sophisticated disease that requires a multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians to combat it,” explained Dr. Divani.
Dr. Divani has been highly committed to the development of University Hospital’s Cerebrovascular Program, which treats over 400 stroke patients every year. The stroke research center is engaged in an extensive research strategy involving epidemiological, clinical and basic science research pertaining to cerebrovascular diseases.
“Dr. Qureshi’s gift is particularly meaningful for the University because it is an inspiring example of a faculty member who is willing to take a huge step to show his commitment to excellence by supporting an area of medicine that is important to him personally and professionally,” explained George Heinrich, MD, vice chair and CEO of the Foundation of UMDNJ. |
