After eight years serving as separate coalitions, the Essex and Passaic County Cancer Coalitions have united to form the new regional two-county Essex-Passaic Wellness Coalition, effective July 1, 2012, with an enhanced mission and combined meetings.

The Coalition includes three committees and a Leadership Council.  The Principal Investigator is Stanley H. Weiss, MD; the co-Principal Investigator is Diana R. DeCosimo, MD.  Drs. Weiss and DeCosimo are full-time faculty members at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School in Newark.
Advocacy
Coordinates efforts to establish a visible presence and provide a strong voice to inform policy decision makers about needs and best practices related to cancer care, prevention and awareness — primarily at the county and municipal levels.

Education/Outreach
Coordinates efforts to enhance current public & professional education efforts in Essex to increase access to cancer prevention, detection, & treatment.  Maintains online calendar of cancer-related events in the community.

Development
Explores funding opportunities for cancer control efforts in Essex & drafts proposals for these projects.

Leadership Council
Provides guidance to committees & overall coalition. Identifies goals to be achieved, and works with & mobilizes the entire coalition membership to achieve these goals.
