Mission
- To increase cancer awareness and reduce the impact of cancer on all Essex County residents through improved education, screening, access to treatment and follow-up.
- To promote awareness of and participation in cancer clinical trials and to support investigations that seek to find the causes of cancer, improve care, reduce health disparities, or increase access.
- To increase communication and collaboration among all stakeholders, through partnerships with health insurance companies, public health organizations, local and county health officers, the business community, civic and community-based organizations, healthcare and other service providers, volunteers, cancer survivors, membership organizations (such as unions), the academic community, the media, and local and state government (specifically including the NJ Local Information Network and Communications System & local health departments), and other interested parties to achieve an integrated program that maximizes the utilization of resources and coordinates priorities in seeking additional resources.
- To effectively promote and implement the goals of the current NJ-CCCP and the Essex County Cancer Capacity and Needs Assessment throughout the county in coordination with the requirements of the Essex CEED Coalition. Actions will include examination and prioritization of an expansion of cancer control efforts in the county (including implementation and development of evidence-based approaches that promote education, screening, access to treatment & follow-up and clinical care) with the inclusion of all seven priority cancers in the NJ-CCCP plus those identified to be of particular importance in the county; these currently include: breast, cervical, colorectal, head and neck, liver, lung, melanoma, musculoskeletal, oral/oropharyngeal and prostate cancers.
