CHEMICAL WASTE DISPOSAL INSTRUCTIONS AND CONTACTS
Chem-Mart - Donation of Unopened Chemicals in Newark or Piscataway
Chemical Waste Disposal Request (CWDR) form
New!
If you are on the Newark or Piscataway campus and you have unwanted chemicals or products that have never been opened and are not expired, you can donate them to researchers on your campus using Chem-Mart, the UMDNJ chemical redistribution service. |
1. For chemical waste to be disposed of through EOHSS, prepare a Hazardous Waste label and adhere it to a suitable container:
- List all chemical constituents on the hazardous waste label before adding waste to the container.
- Write in the approximate percent (%) of each component on the hazardous waste label.
- Circle one or more of the appropriate hazard class for the containerized waste.
- Keep container closed except when adding or removing waste.
- Write in the container full date on each container label, when the container is full.
You can download labels that can be completed online, or get them during a waste pick-up, or request them in the appropriate place on the Chemical Waste Disposal Request (CWDR) form or by contacting Kyle San Giovani at sangiokd@umdnj.edu or (973) 972-4812 (x2-4812).
2. Complete the Chemical Waste Disposal Request (CWDR) form and submit it
3 days before the container is full, to request a waste pick-up. List all hazardous waste containers (product name, ingredients if applicable) to be disposed.
- Write in the number and size (e.g., liter, gallon, etc.) of each unique chemical waste container.
- Write in the appropriate hazard class for each waste (refer to hazard classifications at bottom of page).
- Write in the percent (%) of each component on this form.
3. Leave labeled waste containers in a conspicuous location, if you are unsure whether you will be available.
- Do Not handle shock sensitive or explosive waste; contact waste manager for assistance.
- Improperly labeled or uncapped containers or containers in poor condition will not be accepted.
Kyle San Giovanni , EOHSS, is responsible for picking up chemical waste from laboratories and clinics. After he receives your submitted form, he will contact you with a date and the approximate time when he will pick iup the waste. If you have any questions, phone him at (973) 972-4812 (x2-4812) or email him at sangiokd@umdnj.edu. If you can not reach Kyle and you need help right away, you can contact your local EOHSS office.
