RWJMSC Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)
This Committee has the responsibility of reviewing all safety issues for the Education and Research Building. This includes biohazards, experimental materials, fire safety, general building safety, etc.
All experiments conducted in the UMDNJ/RWJMS at Camden Education & Research Building which involve materials that could be considered any type of safety issue, must have the prior written approval of the Institutional Biosafety Committee before that material is delivered to the building.
The RWJMS-C Biosafety Committee has the responsibility to review recombinant DNA research conducted at or sponsored by RWJMS-C for compliance with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules, and approve those research projects that are found to conform with the NIH Guidelines.The committee also oversees the use of other biohazards in accordance with the CDC-NIH Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, and the UMDNJ Biosafety Plan which is in section 10 of the Laboratory Safety Plan (pdf).
