Does University Hospital have a SAFETY PROGRAM?

Yes, University Hospital has an Environment Of Care (EOC) Safety Management Program consisting of the following components:

 
• general safety
• fire safety / life safety
• emergency preparedness
• security
• medical equipment
• utilities
• hazardous materials and wastes
• violence prevention

To implement an effective EOC safety management program that addresses each component listed above, an EOC Safety Committee has been established.  This Committee meets regularly and consists of representation from the following Departments:

 



The goal of the EOC Safety Committee is to provide a multi-disciplinary forum and framework in which to identify and manage environment of care issues at University Hospital thus promoting a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. 


What are EOC Safety Committee REPRESENTATIVES?

The EOC Safety Committee has established Safety Representatives to serve as the "eyes and ears" of our environment of care program.  This person also serves as an environment of care resource for hospital staff, provides assistance by working with departments/units and staff to resolve environment of care concerns and forwards issues as necessary to the EOC Safety Committee for appropriate follow-up.

What is the role of the Safety Officer?

The role of the Safety Officer is to facilitate the Joint Commission environment of care safety program for University Hospital.  This is done through the EOC Safety Committee and includes training initiatives, establishment of performance measures and development of environment of care programs, policies and procedures.  The Safety Officer is James Hogle, III and is located in the Hospital Support Services department, UH, A-220 and can be reached at extension 3337 or hogleij@umdnj.edu.
