EMPLOYEE ACCESS TO MEDICAL AND EXPOSURE RECORDS: The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the N.J. Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health (PEOSH) Program have adopted regulations giving employees who are occupationally exposed to toxic substances or harmful physical agents access to their medical records and relevant exposure information. In addition, these regulations extend the right of access under certain circumstances to an employee's designated representative and OSHA representatives. Specifically, the regulations require that each employee (or designated representative) has access to and is entitled to copies of his/her own medical or relevant exposure records and to copies of analyses using exposure or medical records concerning the employee's working conditions or workplace. UMDNJ is committed to providing employees access to their personal medical and/or exposure records.

UMDNJ employee medical records are maintained by each campus Occupational Medicine Service (OMS)/Employee Health Service (EHS) and exposure records are maintained by the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Services (EOHSS). Each OMS has always had a practice of sharing an employee's medical data with the employee. This OSHA/PEOSH regulation was enacted to ensure that all workers (or their designated representatives) have access to such records upon request. Employees desiring access to or copies of their medical record should visit their campus OMS to request it. The Newark OMS is located in the Stanley S. Bergen, Jr. Building, suite GA 167 (voice 2-2900, fax 2-2904). The New Brunswick/Piscataway OMS is in the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute Clinical Center, 1st floor (voice 445-0123, fax 445-0173). Employee health records in Stratford are maintained at the Department of Family Medicine, University Doctors Pavilion, suite 2100 (voice 6-7020, fax 6-6188). Exposure records can be obtained from EOHSS at http://ready.umdnj.edu and which is located on the Newark campus in the Bergen Building, room 443 (voice 2-4812, fax 2-3694), on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campuses in the Liberty Plaza, room 2250 (voice 5-4058, fax 5-5270) and on the Stratford campus in the University Education Center, suite 1031 (voice 6-6189, fax 6-6352). The current directors are Dr Lawrence D. Budnick (Newark OMS), Dr Iris Udasin (NB/P EHS), Dr Katherine Garnier (Stratford OMS) and Renee Lyons (EOHSS).
