Multiple Sclerosis patients and Integrative Medicine Dr.Adam Perlman published an article entitled “Integrative Medicine and Multiple Sclerosis”, in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Connection magazine, summer 2008, Volume 1, Issue 4 . In the article, Dr. Perlman discusses Integrative Medicine and the role it may play in the care of the patient with Multiple Sclerosis. in the Health and Beauty Profile section of the Surburan Essex
Magazine, summer 2008 issue. In the article entitled "Conventional
Medicine Meets Alternative", Dr. Perlman discusses the "best
of both worlds" which combines the best of traditional medicine
with alternative and complementary modalities. "Doctors
who practice integrative medicine are open to therapies that fall
outside of mainstream medicine," notes Dr. Perlman. "
Integrative medicine addresses the whole person, examining medical
as well as emotional and even spiritual issues. A variety
of issues may be at the root of an illness or impacting someone's
quality of life," Dr. Perlman explains.
Click here to read entire article (pdf) "Conductorcise" excercise session with Seniors at New Community Corporation On May 22, 2008, The Institute for Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the New Community Corporation presented “Conductorcise”, an exercise session for the seniors at New Community, led by maestro David Dworkin. The session was aired on NJN's May 27th Healthwatch segment. The Star-Ledger Newspaper also ran a story entitled “Healthy Conduct: Baton in Hand, Seniors Exercise to Beat the Band”, on June 3, 2008. Conductorcise was the
latest of a series of fitness programs, such as yoga and tai chi,
offered to seniors through the Wellness Club, a joint venture of
New Community and UMDNJ's Institute for Complementary & Alternative

Dr. Perlman was elected to the position of Vice Chair, November 2007, by the Steering Committee of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine at their Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Consortium membership currently includes 39 highly esteemed medical centers across the United States and Canada. In September 2007, Dr. Perlman was honored to be named the new Chairperson for this Department. The move to the Department of Primary Care supports Dr. Perlman's goal to grow and expand ICAM's mission as an institute. In addition, Dr. Adam Perlman is featured in the New Jersey Medical School's On the Move 2006 Annual Report. As the CAM curriculum director for NJMS, Dr. Perlman has played a vital role in integrating complementary and alternative medicine into the New Jersey Medical School. In addition to learning about different types of complementary and alternative medicine and resources for evaluating evidence-based research on efficacy of non-Western treatments, students also learn the importance of looking at the patient as a whole person, a concept that complements the school's focus on cultural competency.
